The National Cyber Directorate has issued a public warning about a new phishing scam using deepfakes: Fake videos were distributed on social media, supposedly showing the Rishon LeZion Rabbi David Yosef recommending a medical product.
Is 100,000 NIS right for you before Shavuot? Last hours for the big lottery!
This is a fake video created using deepfake technology, and Rishon LeZion has no connection to the video or the product marketed through it.
The video links to a phishing page, which aims to steal personal and payment information from the public.
The cyber unit reminds: "Beware of videos that use well-known figures and check their credibility. Do not click on links that appear in the video, in comments, or in accompanying messages. Before purchasing a medical product, check that the information appears on an official, well-known website.".
""Do not leave personal or credit information on sites you are not familiar with. If in doubt, stop and check with an official.".
The National Cyber Directorate also asks any citizen who comes across a similar video to take immediate action to prevent the continued distribution of fake content online. The video should be reported to the social platform where it was posted, and at the same time, a direct report should be made to the National Cyber Directorate's 119 hotline.
