Independent journalist Hila Tov, mother of Haaretz reporter Michael Hauser Tov, caused a stir on social media after she posted a tweet protesting against housing for religious residents in Tel Aviv.
Is 100,000 NIS right for you before Shavuot? Last hours for the big lottery!
In the tweet she posted, the journalist included a picture of a religious man armed with a long weapon next to a father carrying a baby stroller.
""In a worrying and disgusting way, Tel Aviv is being occupied by people wearing kippahs and weapons, and adorned with 'Jewish head' style bobos. And don't start with 'there is room for everyone' - because there isn't. Look at what's happening in Arad, for example. The takeover of Tel Aviv is deliberate and systematic. If not to poke a finger in the eye, why come and settle in the very heart of secularism?" Tov wrote.
The tweet sparked a wave of reactions from many users, some of whom accused her of anti-Semitism.
Yinon Magal responded: "Leave the ridiculousness that this is a Jerusalemite who came to Tel Aviv and is now determining who will live in the city... I assume these are soldiers, regular or reserve, who have given hundreds of days in the army and in some cases risked their lives so that she can vent her characteristic bestiality on Twitter.".
""By the way, it's clear to all of us that she would never dare to express herself like that about Arabs. This is selective racism, against religious Jews.".
The consolation is that no one asks her and she can jump.".
Likud spokesman Guy Levy responded cynically: "I recommend that you publish a dedicated email address so that people can submit their request to move to Tel Aviv to you in an organized manner, and you will approve or deny it.".
On the other hand, a resident of the city center defined himself as secular and expressed a more moderate position towards the religious presence, "I think we would gain a lot as a society if we stopped looking at people as groups, and started looking at people as individuals. I have religious friends, not nationalists, who live in the center of Tel Aviv because they love the city, the proximity to the sea and the proximity to friends. It's not all part of a malicious plan.".
Right-wing activist Ayelet Lash attacked: "When we live in Judea and Samaria, you shout 'Get out of there,' when we reach the perimeter you shout 'But why there,' when we go to Metula you shout 'The tanks are occupying Metula,' when we reach Lod you shout 'Why did you come to riot?' You want coexistence with Nazi Arabs but can't stand to see your brothers wearing a kippah within your radius. Tell me more about the inclusion, pluralism, humanity, and tolerance of the small Israelis.".
Yehda Wald, CEO of the Religious Zionist Party: "I don't know who Hila is. But 1,600 people liked this poison. The people in the knitted kippahs are good enough to die as fighters in Lebanon, but not good enough to live in Tel Aviv. The Death Eater campaign hasn't stopped, this gratuitous hatred must stop.".
