According to the police, dozens attempted to force their way into the complex and caused severe damage to the main entrance door, the vehicles that operate the shuttles, and the external fencing on the site.
The police forces operating on the scene repelled the rioters using force. After a dispersal order was given, all residents were evacuated from the complex in order to maintain public peace and security.
During the incident, two suspects were arrested for their involvement in disorderly conduct and causing damage. They were taken for questioning at the Lev HaBira police station.
""The wild behavior of the troublemakers," the police say, "directly harmed the thousands who came to the celebration and endangered their safety.".
The site reopened to the public today at 5:00 AM under police security.
""The Israel Police views seriously any attempt to turn a religious and holy site into a scene of violence and disorder. The police will not allow any extremist element to violate the law, harm or endanger public peace," the police statement said.
