A senior American official told Fox News that the US military attacked Qassem Island and Bandar Abbas - but emphasized: "This is not a renewal of the war.".

According to the official, the US attacked one of Iran's oil ports on Qassem Island in response to the launch of 15 ballistic missiles and cruise missiles this week at the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.

The spokesman for Iran's armed forces responded: "The US has violated the ceasefire, Iran will respond forcefully and without hesitation to any attack.".

According to reports in the Iranian Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the regime, after the explosions, US military forces operating in the area were forced to withdraw from their positions after Iranian forces opened fire on them.

According to the report, three American destroyers were attacked by the Iranian Navy near the Strait of Hormuz.

The US military confirmed that Iranian forces attacked three US warships. "Iranian forces attacked three US warships with missiles, drones and boats - none of our ships were hit. We are not interested in escalation, but remain prepared and ready to defend our forces.".

At the same time, Iranian media reported that air defense systems in Bandar Abbas were activated and shot down two hostile drones.

Doron Kadosh, the military correspondent for Galts, summarized the events of the last few hours in the Persian Gulf and southern Iran:

  1. US military forces identified an Iranian tanker attempting to leave an Iranian port and break the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz - and fired at it
  2. In response, Iran attacked three American destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranians claim that they caused damage to the ships - but the US military denied this and clarified that all threats were intercepted, and no American targets were hit.
  3. In response to the Iranian attack, the US military attacked a series of targets in southern Iran - in Bandar Abbas, Minab, and Qeshm Island.

Meanwhile, both the US and Iran are issuing briefings and messages indicating that these are limited events. Iran claims that it was only responding to the American attacks (and it is implied that its response has ended), and the US military has also made it clear that it attacked Iran only in a reactive manner and is not interested in escalation.

The reports began when the Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, earlier reported explosions heard near the port city of Bandar Abbas and on the island of Qeshm.

The Tasnim news agency claimed that the explosions were caused by an initiative by the Revolutionary Guards Navy, which was intended to warn ships of unauthorized passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, a later report by Fars News Agency stated that "an exchange of fire between Iranian forces and the enemy" had developed in the area. According to the new report, the Bahman dock located on Qeshm Island was the target of the attack and was hit.

Later, the Tasnim news agency reported that there were signs of hostile action by the UAE in the area of the dock on Qeshm Island, which was the target of an attack and suffered damage - and Iran threatened: If the things turn out to be true - the UAE will pay the price.

As mentioned, it turned out that it was US forces that attacked.

Israel denies any connection to the explosions.
