MK Eitan Ginsburg announced today (Tuesday) his resignation from the Blue and White party led by Benny Gantz.

A statement issued by Blue and White stated that party chairman, MK Benny Gantz, summoned MK Eitan Ginsburg "in light of information that reached him that he was conducting contacts with other parties due to concerns about his political and economic future.".

Gantz demanded that Ginsburg inform him of his political future and heard from him that he intended to resign from the party.

""Blue and White is a home for people who believe in the path and are loyal to it, even when it is difficult. Who understand that the State of Israel needs a broad, Zionist unity government that will unite all parts of the people and move Israel forward," a statement from Blue and White said.

Ginsburg responded: "Blue and White was a warm political home for me, and even when it was difficult and challenging - I believed in the ability to change and influence. Unfortunately, the ability of the political framework in its current form to continue to bring about the change needed in the country has diminished. And change at this time is truly required and mandated by reality. There is no other choice.".

""It was a great privilege to serve under the leadership of Benny Gantz. A courageous leader, with extraordinary strength and integrity. I am grateful for the trust and opportunities given to me in our shared journey. I was happy to walk with my good friends on the Blue and White path, and I hope that we will continue to work together and do good, each in our own way. At this time, the moment has come when we need to move forward and find a framework in which I can continue to contribute my abilities in the best possible way. Israeli society needs correction, and I intend to continue fighting to restore hope.".

Earlier, it was agreed between Gantz and MK Hili Tropper - who announced his resignation from the party earlier this week - that the resigning member would remain in the current Knesset and not resign.

Tropper noted that he has no intention of resigning from the faction and that he will work with it in coordination on parliamentary issues.

Earlier, commentator Amit Segal reported that Gantz demanded that Knesset members Hili Tropper and Orit Farkash HaCohen resign from the Knesset immediately. This is in order to preserve the party's original strength and, primarily, the party's funding, which is derived from the number of seats.

However, Gantz has additional considerations, as if Tropper and Farkas resign, those next in line on the Joint List to enter the Knesset may change the balance of power in the Knesset.

One of the candidates is Dover Weiser, a representative of Gideon Sa'ar's faction, which would increase the coalition to 69 MKs if she enters the Knesset in place of the resigning members.
