The United States Central Command announced at noon (Monday) that two merchant ships carrying the US flag successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz today, and are now continuing their journey safely.
The command noted that destroyers are operating in the Gulf as part of Operation Project Freedom, which was announced yesterday by US President Donald Trump. The American forces are working to restore traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and are tasked with rescuing ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Fars Agency, a media outlet affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, earlier claimed that Revolutionary Guard forces succeeded in hitting an American warship with two missiles.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters news agency today: "Iran fired a warning shot at a US warship to prevent it from entering the Strait of Hormuz.".
On the other hand, a senior American official told Al Jazeera: "The Revolutionary Guards fabricated the news of a US Navy ship being hit.".
The US Central Command later denied the Iranian official's statement. In a "fact-check" statement issued by the command, it was clarified that, contrary to Iranian reports of two missiles hitting a US vessel, no US Navy ship was hit and these claims are devoid of any basis.
According to the military statement, American forces are continuing their operational activities in the region as usual. Central Command added that the forces are currently operating in support of the "Freedom Project" and are engaged in enforcing the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said in an interview with Fox News: "We have complete control of the Strait of Hormuz. I call on China to join our efforts to open it.".
Al-Jazeera reported, based on navigation data it received, that the Iranian ship 'Zafia', which transports natural gas, managed to break through the American blockade.
According to the report, the ship was spotted several weeks ago carrying cargo that came from Aslawiya in Iran, and two days ago it was seen off the coast of Sohar in Oman.
