A few weeks ago, a resident of Modi'in Illit reported that his son, a boy under the age of 14, was assaulted by a city resident, supervised for serious offenses, in his 40s - during Shabbat morning, when the suspect and the victim were in the synagogue.
Immediately upon receiving the report, investigators from the Modi'in Illit station began investigating the case, taking testimony from professionals due to the victim's age.
According to the suspicion and the findings of the investigation, during that Sabbath - after the end of prayer, the suspect - a supervisor of serious offenses of the Prison Service's "Tzur" unit - developed a discussion about religious matters with the boy. In this way, he slowly gained his trust.
In the midst of this and in the heat of the conversation, with a clear goal on the part of the suspect, he led him to harm him.
Among other things, in addition to the serious criminal act, the suspect violated the supervision conditions of prohibiting contact with minors and prohibiting entry into the synagogue, terms and conditions of which he was well aware.
On April 20th, during an activity by detectives from the Youth Division of the Modi'in Illit Station and with the assistance of an inspector from the Prison Service's "Tzur" unit, the suspect was located and arrested for police questioning.
His detention was extended at the request of investigators from the Family Division from time to time, and during the days of his interrogation, evidence, testimonies, and findings were compiled in connection with his actions.
After an evidentiary infrastructure was formed, a prosecutor's statement was submitted in recent days on behalf of the Central District Attorney's Office regarding the intention to file an indictment against him and a request to detain him until the end of the proceedings, and the suspect's detention was extended in court until today.
