The Consumer Protection Authority is investigating suspicions against the Rami Levy Shekma Marketing chain, according to which the chain failed to report, in accordance with the Food Law, the price of dozens of products to the authority's computer system.

According to a report on the Walla website, the suspicion is that over the course of several days, the Rami Levy chain has refrained from reporting the prices of dozens of its best-selling products. These very same products are included in the list of 103 products that make up the "Israeli Basket" that was launched two weeks ago at the Carrefour chain, at a price 30% lower than the market price.

The price of some of the unreported products is higher than that of the 'Israeli Basket', and their absence from the database did not allow for an accurate price comparison between the Levi's basket and the baskets of other chains, including Carrefour.

Only yesterday afternoon did they return to the network to report legally.

The Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Authority responded to Walla by saying: "The Law for Promoting Competition in the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries imposes on large retailers an obligation to regularly report the prices of all products sold in their branches. Failure to report constitutes a violation of the law and harms transparency towards consumers.".

""The Authority views seriously any attempt to evade the reporting obligation, and is currently examining reports received on the subject regarding specific retailers. To the extent that violations are found, the Authority will act with all the tools at its disposal, including imposing financial sanctions, to ensure compliance with the law.".

Marmi Levy has not yet responded to 'Walla'.

By law, the maximum financial sanction for a reporting violation is approximately 50,000 NIS per violation. If the suspicions are confirmed, the cumulative amount of fines may reach a very high fine.
