The legal advisor to the president, Attorney Michal Tzuk, today (Tuesday) addressed the parties in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cases, inviting them to hold "contacts to reach agreements.".
The President's Office stated: "This procedure is intended to examine the possibility of advancing understandings and agreements, and is only a preliminary stage before the President holds a hearing on the pardon request itself. The parties were asked to arrive as soon as possible, willingly and with good and proper intentions.".
It was clarified to the parties that responding to the invitation does not constitute consent or approval on their behalf for any matter in dispute between them in court.".
Attorney Tzuk wrote to the parties: "The President of the State, after consulting with me, believes that before considering exercising his authority in relation to the request submitted in the Prime Minister's case, the possibility of holding contacts between the parties should be exhausted in order to reach agreements.".
According to her, "It seems that there is no dispute about the value of holding a conciliatory conversation that ends in a settlement. This procedure is also appropriate and effective in the eyes of the courts, especially in matters that are at the core of the public debate in Israel. The President has even expressed his opinion more than once in praise of a dialogue aimed at reaching agreements between the parties.".
She invited the prime minister's lawyers and prosecutors to come to the president's residence "with a heart of desire and good and proper intentions" and emphasized that each side "entered the room free of obligations and conditions.".
