""I don't feel special. On the contrary, almost everyone has the opportunity and ability to save lives. I do the 'easy' part and only get to donate blood. The hard and truly special work - MDA's blood services do it," said Jeffrey Green, 62, who works as an information and donation manager at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, when he arrived at the Magen David Adom blood donation point in his hometown of Beersheba to donate blood for his 100th time, accompanied by his family members who also donated blood.
Jeffrey's first blood donation was when he was an 18-year-old boy in the United States. At the age of 27, he immigrated to Israel from Washington with his wife, and since then the two have managed to start a family of three children and have three grandchildren. Since immigrating to Israel, he has made sure to continue donating blood at MDA donation points every few months. "Donating blood is an opportunity to save lives. It doesn't require much and it's free, so why not?", Jeffrey shared and added, "My entire family came to my 100th donation, and they also see the importance of it. My wife and two of my children have donated several times already and will continue to do so in the future. I hope that my grandchildren will also understand the great significance of this donation and follow in my footsteps." After the donation, the acting director of the South Blood Donation Unit at MDA's blood services, Eran Elbaz, presented Jeffrey with a certificate of appreciation and thanked him.
Deputy Director of Medicine and Blood Services at MDA, Dr. Rafael Strogo: ""Jeffrey is an example of the power of life-saving giving. Blood is a vital and consumable resource and has no substitute. It cannot be produced in a laboratory, it is a medicine that passes only one way - from the donor to the recipient. The blood units donated every day by Magen David Adom's blood services save the lives of many sick and injured people who need them and will not live to see them. Jeffrey's great commitment moves us and I am sure that in a few years, it will seem that Jeffrey's 100th donation was just a milestone in the amount of many donations he will make in the future. Thank you, dear Jeffrey, and we look forward to meeting you again in three months.".
