Police officers at the Lev Habira police station arrested a 27-year-old suspect, a resident of Beit Shemesh, yesterday (Wednesday), on suspicion of looting and damaging the state flag during Independence Day in Jerusalem.
The suspect burned the flag - which is a violation of the law.
The arrest was made following reports received of public humiliation of the state symbol.
The suspect was taken to the station for questioning. Later today, he will be brought before the Magistrate's Court for a hearing on extending his detention.
"The Israel Police will continue to act decisively against anyone who attempts to harm the symbols of government and the values of the state," the police say.
