An initial investigation conducted by the IDF indicates that Lieutenant Colonel A. was standing near a tank while a pursuit of a terrorist squad took place in complex terrain conditions in the Bint Jbeil area.
The force in the tank fired a shell at a suspicious point. The battalion commander, who was standing near the tank, was hit by the shell splash.
Two days before his injury, on Sunday, an anti-tank missile was fired directly at the tank in which the battalion commander was stationed, but the incident ended without casualties thanks to the "Windbreaker" system that intercepted the missile.
