A serious security incident occurred at the beginning of the war and almost ended in disaster, when a minister who came to visit the northern border was at high risk.

According to a report this evening (Sunday) on Channel i24, a source in the "Magen" unit responsible for the security of government ministers said in a closed conversation that one of the ministers who came to visit the northern border was at an exposed point - only a short time before Hezbollah opened fire on that area.

Following the incident, which was described as a "near disaster," security guidelines for ministers visiting combat zones and threatened areas were significantly tightened.

The report noted that at the beginning of the war, the General Security Service decided to strengthen the security arrangements around a number of senior officials, with an emphasis on members of the political-security cabinet.

The measures include providing armored vehicles to ministers whose threat has been defined as particularly high, as well as transferring family members of senior ministers to protected apartments or temporarily housing them in secure hotels - a step intended for those whose threat has been defined as higher, among other things due to fear of attempted harm or assassination.

It was also decided to update the ministers' schedules and travel routes to prevent regular patterns.

Alongside the physical threat, the Shin Bet recently tightened its procedures regarding the use of cell phones. The main concern is attempts by Iranian intelligence to carry out cyber attacks, insert spyware, or conduct sophisticated phishing attempts designed to extract sensitive information from the devices of decision-makers.
