
Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: In Bnei Brak, the late Rabbi Shalom Meir Walch, rabbi of the central synagogue in Shikun G, and publisher of Passover books and Haggadot, passed away on Saturday at the age of 78 - after a serious illness.
The late Rabbi, zt"l, one of the most well-known and influential figures in the world of Haredi literature and sermons in recent decades, was born in Tel Aviv on Sukkot 5758 to his father, Rabbi Mordechai HaCohen Velek z"l, who was an elder of the Hasidim of Vizhnitz, and to his mother, Mrs. Aliza, may God have mercy on him.
In his youth he studied at the Slobodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. After his marriage he studied at the kollel, while at the same time engaging in literary writing.
With the establishment of Yated Ne'eman, he joined the newspaper's staff and became the editor of the Torah supplement.
Over the years, he has authored and published hundreds of books. Many of his books are about rabbis of the Eastern faith, as well as parables and stories for the High Holy Days and the Passover Haggadah from the greatest rabbis of the Eastern faith.
Over the years, he edited the Shas newsletter "Ma'ayan HaShavu'ah," and his articles were published in the "Ma'ayan HaShavu'ah" series of books on the Torah. He also published series on the holidays and faith.
Every year, he published a new Passover Haggadah, which included a collection of commentaries and explanations on the Haggadah's order by one of the rabbis, with stories about him.
Among other things, he published the Haggadah of the Vilna Gra, the Baal Shem Tov and his students, the Hatam Sofer, and also of the great Lithuanian rabbis of recent generations: the Chofetz Chaim, Rabbi Shach, the 'Steifler', the Graish Elyashiv, and more.
He also published biographies of Jewish greats that became bestsellers.
He also served as a Datra in the central synagogue of Shikun G in Bnei Brak.
His funeral will leave tonight at 10:15 PM from his home at 10 Rav Ami Street in Bnei Brak, via his seminary at 74 Hazon Ish Street in Shikun G, to Beit HaChaim Vizhnitz - where he will be laid to rest.
