Volunteers from the Etzion-Yehuda Rescue Unit and police officers from the Etzion Station, with the assistance of military forces and members of the Gush Etzion Security Department, worked last night (Friday night) to rescue two hikers from Jerusalem, aged 18 and 20, who had gone out for a hike down the Arugot Stream in the Judean Desert last night - and had run into a security dilemma deep in the area.

During the trip, the two were attacked with stones by Palestinian rioters who recognized them as traveling alone. The travelers began to flee and went off the route they had planned - and thus effectively lost their way, unable to return to safety.

Despite technological difficulties, the two managed to contact security officials and report the incident.

Volunteers from the Etzion-Yehuda rescue unit began operations to locate the exact location of the hikers, using special means and foot scans of the area by all forces and using drones - and thus a military force, under the direction of the rescue unit, reached the hikers who had been lost deep in the area for hours, when darkness had already fallen, and with fears that they would be identified again by the rioters.

The rescue unit volunteers provided the two with resuscitation and then escorted them off the route, to a safe place, so that they could continue on their way safely.
