The Knesset Education Committee's discussion that took place this morning (Wednesday) accurately reflected the difficulties experienced by hundreds of thousands of Israeli students since the outbreak of the "Harry Potter Roar.".
While the committee met to discuss the effectiveness of distance learning, Education Minister Yoav Kish chose not to physically arrive at the Knesset building and joined the discussion via the Zoom app.
However, as with the online classes of Israeli students, which are frequently interrupted, the minister's broadcast was also fragmented and disrupted. Committee members had difficulty hearing the minister's words, as he was actually trying to defend the online tool.
The minister's absence and the technical glitches sparked outrage among the Knesset members present in the hall.
Minister Kish, in the parts of his speech that were recorded, tried to explain the importance of the system: "Distance learning is a goal and I believe it is an important tool, especially for the young children who talk to the kindergarten teacher and the educator. It is clear that if I compare it to learning in classrooms, it is less good, but it is the need right now.".
