Defense Minister Yisrael Katz revealed today (Tuesday) during a government meeting that the Chief of Security in the Defense Establishment (CMSA) has opened an official investigation following suspicions that there was a leak to Channel 12 of the date of the attack in Iran.
According to a report on Channel 14, the Defense Minister revealed the investigation after Education Minister Yoav Kish sharply criticized what he described as a serious security lapse. "I don't understand how it is possible that someone leaked the exact date of the attack to Channel 12, and this thing goes unnoticed? How is that possible?" he asked at the meeting.
Kish pointed out the advance and, in his words, extraordinary preparation of Channel 12: "The team of presenters and the editors were in the studio, made up and ready! After all, this thing could have leaked and jeopardized the State of Israel and the entire campaign!""
In response to Kish's claims, Katz revealed that the incident is being investigated at the highest levels.
""This thing doesn't go quietly," Katz replied. "An investigation has been opened at the Malmob and it is currently underway.".
The government's criticism comes against the background of the fact that Channel 12's broadcasts began covering the wave of air force attacks on Iran immediately after the operation began, when the broadcast team - presenter Yonit Levy and military correspondent Nir Davuri - were already made up and ready for broadcast.
Yaakov Bardugo, a commentator for Channel 14, wondered last week, on his program on Gali Israel radio, whether senior figures in the defense establishment had briefed Channel 12 before the start of the operation, since as soon as the attack began, they were already ready in the 12 News studio, with makeup and makeup on.
According to Bardugo, this is something that needs to be investigated. "This evening I continue to wonder, which of the state officials, which of the military officials, which of the Mossad officials, would have considered it important to brief Channel 12?" Bardugo asked.
The commentator explained why he suspected that the competing channel was informed in advance about the date of the attack in Iran: "At 8:16, Yonit Levy was already in the studio, doing makeup, along with Nir Davori. I'm telling you here, according to information I have, they haven't come and slept in the studio in the last month and were doing makeup 24/7.".
He clarified that this is not jealousy: "This is not jealousy of 12 and 14, we didn't broadcast, I don't care. I care who dared?""
The editor of the main edition on Channel 12 responded to Bardugo's words and wrote on his X account: "Be careful, Yaakov, I don't reveal sources, but this is a person very close to you.".
News 12 responded at the time: "Yaakov Bardugo knows exactly how News 12 and the other television channels that broadcast on Saturday morning prepared to break into the broadcast.".
