The Chief Rabbinate of Israel's Kosher Fraud Department has published a special update revealing a series of serious deficiencies and misrepresentations in basic consumer products imported and marketed in food chains.
An examination shows that a 3.7% fat resistant whole milk drink in a 1 liter package, which is manufactured in Belgium by Solarec Assay and imported by Euro Dairy Europe (Gold Frost) Ltd. from Yavneh - appears on the kosher label of 'Helab Yisrael' under the supervision of Badatz Yosef and with the approval and authorization of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, but an examination by the Chief Rabbinate's import department shows that the product was not approved by them at all and therefore should be removed from the shelves and returned to the importer immediately.
At the same time, a significant problem was discovered with a fish product called 100% smoked clone fish liver in fish oil in a 115 gram package, which is manufactured in Iceland and imported by G. Willifood International Ltd., as the product was marked as kosher with the approval of the Rabbinate and OU Kashrut, even though the import department rejected the request for approval for production starting in January 2025.
The Rabbinate noted that the refusal was given "after no details were received at the time of submission regarding the method of treating the parasites, whether there was close supervision, and whether Israeli cooking took place. Therefore, the request was rejected regarding production starting in January 2025, and therefore the product should not be accepted and must be returned to the importer.".
The Rabbinate notes that "this announcement does not refer to additional products of this product and importer, as long as they meet the requested conditions.".
In the meat sector, a deficiency was found in the marking of the level of kosher in the frozen beef muscle product No. 8 manufactured by Marcovif from Argentina, which is imported and marketed by Tnuva. An on-site inspection revealed that there was a misleading contradiction between the external red label (weighing sticker) on which it was written that the meat is "Kosher-Hakal of the Chief Rabbinate"
"For Israel" and the stamp that appears on the meat itself, which states the words "Kosher only" without defining a portion.
""In light of the malfunction, supervisors must keep their eyes open and check on their premises whether this product is being sold, and if so, it should be returned to Tnuva and the kosher certification provider and us informed immediately.".
