Steve Witkoff, the US President's special envoy to the Middle East, spoke early Sunday morning in an interview with Fox News about the ongoing negotiations with Iran and the military pressure that the US is exerting.
""President Trump doesn't understand why the Iranians haven't surrendered," Witkoff said in an interview with the president's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. "I don't want to use the word frustrated, he understands he has a lot of alternatives. But it's strange, he's curious to know why they haven't surrendered under that kind of pressure, with the amount of naval power we have there. He doesn't understand why they haven't come to us and said they don't want weapons. It's still hard to get them to that place.".
Witkoff addressed the issue of Iran's uranium enrichment, saying that the president's red lines are clear: zero enrichment. Witkoff also noted that Iran has enriched uranium far beyond the level required for civilian nuclear power.
At the same time, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi spoke by phone with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi. According to the report, Araqchi updated Grossi on developments in the negotiations between the US and Iran in recent days, and the two emphasized the importance of interaction and utilizing the dialogue process to advance the negotiations and achieve a sustainable understanding.
The political-security cabinet will convene today for a meeting that was postponed from Thursday. The ministers are expected to discuss, among other things, the Iranian issue.
