Against the backdrop of growing economic protests: Iranian President Massoud Pazakhian revealed his monthly salary today (Thursday) – and sparked many reactions among the Iranian public.
During a meeting to review medical services in Golestan Province, Pazhakian referred to the devaluation of the national currency and said: "As president, I receive a thousand dollars a month.".
Pazhakian also referred to his salary in September 2024, when he said: "Honestly, I don't even know how much salary I get. They say it's 60-70 million. I've long since passed the stage of chasing money and land.".
The remarks were made in the midst of a turbulent economic period in Iran: protests in the country broke out at the end of December following sharp inflation and a dramatic decline in the value of the currency.
Despite widespread repression by security forces, which led to the decline of the protest, the sense of distrust in the government and its ability to deal with the crisis is still clearly felt on the streets. The disclosure of Pazhakian's salary was intended to convey transparency.
