The coalition has weathered another crisis: The Knesset plenum approved last night (Monday) the Knesset Committee's decision to split the Arrangements Law for the 2026 budget year into discussions in Knesset committees, in preparation for their second and third readings.
60 Knesset members supported the approval of the resolution, compared to 56 opponents.
The law passed with the support of Shas and Degel Hatorah MKs. Agudat Yisrael MKs Yitzhak Goldknopf, Meir Porush, and Yaakov Tesler voted against the coalition. So did MK Avi Maoz.
The Knesset plenum recently approved the Knesset Committee's decision regarding the splitting of the Economic Plan Law and the Economic Efficiency Law for the 2026 Budget Year (the Arrangements Law) for discussions in the Knesset committees, in preparation for their second and third readings. 60 Knesset members supported the approval of the decision, against 56 opponents.
The decision by Shas and Degel was made after hours of negotiations with the legal advisor of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on the conscription law.
According to a report in Kan News, in the closed room, the Haredi representatives agreed to waive a clause that would allow for the reduction of recruitment targets, which is expected to be deleted from the bill later on. In addition, it was agreed that the law may be enacted as a temporary provision only.
On the other hand, the Haredi factions continue to insist on two issues that are not acceptable to legal advice: retroactive cancellation of draft orders that have already been issued, and the failure to apply significant and immediate sanctions to those defined as 'defectors'.
According to the report, at the end of a negotiation meeting on the law last night, which lasted several hours, MKs Maklev, Asher, and Azoulay realized that the legal counsel insisted on giving up the clause that would allow for the reduction of recruitment targets - and agreed to it.
Negotiations between the Haredi and legal advice on the law continue.
