El Al suffered a blow in court last week - after its request to freeze a class action lawsuit against it was rejected out of hand.

According to a report on the ice website, the Central District Court was not impressed by the airline's attempts to delay, and ruled that it must appear and respond to the serious allegations of monopolistic exploitation of the war, in order to reap huge profits.

The legal process began in June 2025: while the skies were closed and the competition disappeared, El Al's net profit jumped fourfold - reaching more than half a billion dollars.

El Al claimed that it should wait for the decisions of the Competition Authority, which is considering imposing a fine of approximately 119 million shekels on it and even personally singling out the CEO for the bonuses she received. However, according to the report in ice, the judges sharply criticized the company's conduct, and implied that this was a delaying tactic, after the company had already received countless opportunities to respond.

Ice notes that for the passengers who paid exorbitant prices to return home or leave Israel, this is the first victory in the battle - and now El Al will be forced to explain in court how a national emergency turned into an unprecedented business opportunity at the expense of the Israeli public.
