The affair of the leak of classified documents from the IDF Intelligence Division continues to branch out: This morning (Thursday), another document was revealed, particularly sensitive, which was at the heart of one of the key correspondences.
This is a classified document that dealt with a meeting of political significance between an Israeli public figure and a foreign entity that came into the hands of the opposition figure Ari Rosenfeld, through another reserve officer in the Intelligence Directorate.
According to the report in Yedioth Ahronoth, during his service, the officer came across a classified document, unusual in its political content, and passed it to Rosenfeld via the internal chat of Military Intelligence.
Rosenfeld, who read the document, wrote in response: "The maniac sold us out... I'm personally leaking this today. Sending it to Bardugo. Maybe Ayla Hasson would be better.".
The officer tried to distance himself from the move and replied: "I am not a partner.".
The two continued to discuss the details of the document and even exchanged classified information about it, but later claimed during the investigation that they had no real intention of leaking it.
The document was ultimately not published, but according to the report, it is sensitive material that was not supposed to be exposed to junior-level officers.
Sources in the defense establishment admit that the mere existence of the document in the intelligence system - regarding a sensitive diplomatic meeting - raises difficult questions.
The document about the political meeting was passed to Rosenfeld even before the "Hamas document" was leaked to the German newspaper Bild, for which an indictment was filed.
Although the affair was not included in the indictment, it was revealed during the detention hearings and was handed over to the judge in a sealed envelope. The IDF says that steps have since been taken to limit exposure to similarly sensitive documents.
