The Criminal Department of the State Attorney's Office filed an appeal with the Supreme Court today (Thursday) against the sentence of Shimon Hajani, 38, from Petah Tikva, who was convicted of carrying and transporting weapons and causing damage with explosives, after he threw a grenade in the morning at a residential building, near an active kindergarten in Bnei Brak.
For his actions, he was sentenced to 50 months in prison, along with additional sentences.
According to the verdict, on April 23, 2025, at approximately 9:17 AM, Hajani arrived on an electric bicycle to a residential area in Bnei Brak, and threw a spray grenade at an open dirt parking lot, near residential buildings and the entrance to an active kindergarten, when the street was bustling, and passersby, including a father and his little daughter, were passing nearby.
The grenade exploded and caused property damage, and only by a miracle were there no casualties.
He then fled the scene, but was later caught thanks to security camera footage.

The appeal, filed through Attorney Adar Erez of the Criminal Department of the State Attorney's Office, states that the fight against the use of illegal weapons and the criminal violence that accompanies them is a central and vital fight, and that in recent years there has been a worrying worsening, manifested in the use of grenades and explosive devices, particularly dangerous weapons.
The appeal also noted that Hajjani had a serious criminal record, including, among other things, previous convictions for violent offenses and possession of weapons, which, according to the prosecution, was not sufficiently reflected in the sentence.
The prosecution claims that the sentence imposed is not appropriate to the seriousness of the acts and the real risk to human life, and does not reflect the sentencing policy established in the Supreme Court's ruling. Therefore, the Supreme Court is being asked to increase Hajjani's sentence.
In the Tel Aviv District Court, the case was handled through the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office.
