The Jerusalem District Court sentenced three terrorists, including a minor, to lengthy prison sentences of 20 and 23 years in prison, who were convicted of carrying out a stabbing attack in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem.

In addition, the defendants were sentenced to suspended prison sentences and were ordered to compensate the complainant with financial compensation.

The attack was carried out in July 2023, when the three defendants stabbed the complainant, who was seriously injured and required life-saving medical treatment.

According to the verdict, the three terrorists conspired to carry out a terrorist attack against Jews. To this end, they equipped themselves with knives, infiltrated Israel, and arrived in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem. When they noticed the complainant, they attacked him with knives, causing him severe physical and mental injuries.

As a result of the attack, the Jew was taken to the hospital in serious condition, with numerous stab wounds to his limbs, neck, chest and abdomen, and a knife stuck in his back. He suffered serious injuries to his lung, liver and stomach, fractured ribs, and lost signs of life during surgery, until his condition stabilized after life-saving treatment. He was later diagnosed with a permanent disability of 46 percent.

The terrorists were convicted of terrorist acts of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a knife, and unlawful presence in Israel. One of the defendants was a minor at the time of the crimes.

In its arguments for sentencing, the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, through attorney Einat Baruchi Yariv, requested that the defendants be sentenced to 25 years in prison, along with significant probation and financial compensation for the complainant.

The prosecution claimed that this was one of the most serious terrorist offenses in the law, committed on an ideological basis and with prior planning, equipping itself with knives and a combined attack on a random victim in a public space.

The serious harm to the complainant and the need to protect public safety through deterrent and clear punishment were also emphasized.

The court noted in the verdict: "In the case of the defendants, the seriousness of the advance planning that preceded the act, their joint attack on a single victim while in a group of three, the determination and great cruelty that characterize the shocking act they committed and its serious outcome should be noted.".
