Greek airspace was closed today (Sunday) until 4:00 PM, due to a serious malfunction that prevents the control tower from communicating with the planes.

According to a statement from the Israel Airports Authority, delays are expected in takeoffs and landings of flights from Israel to Greece and in the opposite direction as a result of the move.

A spokeswoman for the Civil Aviation Authority updated: "The airlines are trying to find detours. The traveling public is advised to check with the airlines.".

The malfunction affects not only flights to Greece, but every flight that passes through the country's airspace - on the various islands.

Because of this, many flights to other destinations in Europe are delayed or moved to other routes.

According to reports in Greece, all airports in the country have stopped takeoffs and landings for the time being, due to malfunctions in the country's radio frequencies.

The malfunction also caused flights to be diverted from Greek airspace due to the communications failure.
