Firefighters from the Binyamin area worked this evening (Thursday) to extinguish a fire that broke out in an apartment on Yehezkel Boulevard in the Brachfeld neighborhood in the city of Modiin Illit.

The teams that arrived at the scene detected a fire inside one of the rooms of the house and attempted to make contact with the source of the fire - while simultaneously searching for trapped people.

Upon completion of the firefighting operations, a Hanukkah menorah was found at the center of the fire.

Lahav Barak Grobi, incident commander: "From the initial investigation I conducted at the scene of the incident, it appears that the family members lit Hanukkah candles in one of the rooms of the house facing the street, and then left the house and went outside the city, while the candles were burning.

""When we arrived at the scene of the fire, we carried out firefighting operations and then found the menorah at the center of the fire. Damage was caused to the apartment.".

Lahav Barak Grovi added that the safety instructions of the Israel Fire and Rescue Service must be strictly followed in order for us to pass the holiday safely:

🕯 Never leave a Chanukah menorah lit unattended! Make sure the candles are extinguished before leaving the apartment or going to bed.

🕯It is forbidden to light Hanukkah candles on flammable surfaces or near flammable materials such as curtains, cabinets, or tablecloths.

🕯Menorahs made of flammable materials or improvised menorahs are prohibited. These may burn as the candles burn out.

Very important: Install a smoke detector, which warns of the start of a fire and allows for a quick escape and calling the firefighters."
