Shahar Yahalom, whose husband, Golani Patrol fighter Sergeant Yehuda Dror Yahalom, was killed during the Sukkot holiday a year ago in Lebanon, was interviewed today (Thursday) for 'Hadashot Hokar' with Niv Raskin on Keshet 12, after her engagement to Yehuda's team commander - Itamar Gottlieb.

""I heard about him from Yehuda, I knew who he was. After ten months, several members of the team were supposed to come to the observation that we did for Yehuda. Itamar arrived, we had a good connection. At home, I talked to my sister, I told her it was something I hadn't felt in a long time. She sent him a message, and asked what he thought," Shahar said about their acquaintance.
Itamar: "I thought about it during the period. I knew Shahar for a long time, but over time I started thinking about it. I didn't really dare to think about it, I thought you don't get into things like that. Yehuda was a crazy person, and I think I'm cool, but I thought Shahar would seek crazy greatness. When someone is killed, they become a legend, that's why I was afraid to get close.
""When we were sitting in the observation deck, we talked about Yehuda, about what it was like to lose a person like that, and she said that she saw Yehuda as a simple person. It was crazy for me to be able to see that he was really a human being," he says.
Yahalom also shares the decision not to stop living. "There's something about encountering death and pain that makes it difficult to return to a normal life. It's an understanding that if I stay in the world, then I want to live. It took a while to reach this understanding. At first, it's hard to believe that you can continue. Once you realize that you want to live, you can't do it alone.".
