""They want to impeach me": Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published a video in English this evening (Thursday), in which he addressed his trial - and attacked the prosecution.

During the video, Netanyahu referred to the crimes he is accused of in Case 1000, calling the entire process "the Bugs Bunny trial.".
Netanyahu said that he spoke about his trial in an interview, and according to him, there was a "flood of reactions" from people who said "we didn't know" - which is why he decided to release the video.
Netanyahu: "I am accused of receiving positive press coverage from a second-rate website. In 250 years of liberal democracy, no one has been charged with receiving positive press coverage as a crime. This is what is called bribery. But when the trial progresses, as it did, it turns out that I did not receive positive press coverage, I received negative press coverage.

""I mean, the most hateful, hostile, and negative press coverage you can imagine in Israel, and that's not an easy thing to achieve. So two years ago, the judges called the prosecution and they said, drop the bribery charge. It doesn't hold up. Let's end this thing. The prosecution refused. Yes, it's a political trial.".
The prime minister said that the prosecution "is not interested in justice" and spoke about the "Bugs Bunny doll" case: "They are interested in removing me from office. So what's left? Well, they said that when they cross-examined me. They said, Prime Minister, 29 years ago, your son received a Bugs Bunny doll. So God help me, that's what it is. You received a Bugs Bunny doll. From now on, this trial will be called the Bugs Bunny trial. And you also received cigars from a friend. That's what I'm accused of.".
Netanyahu continued: "Now it's absurd, and of course this trial just goes on and on and on. Six years, six years of false investigations on these idiotic charges, and the trial has now been going on for four years, and it's expected to last another two or three years. I have to go to trial.
""I have to sit down when I tell you this, okay? I have to go three times a week, eight hours a day to debate this nonsense. Now, this is funny. This is comical. Yes, I was a debate champion in my high school, so this is a farce. But this farce is doing the country a lot of damage.
""There are big things to do," the prime minister said, "there are peace agreements to achieve. There is artificial intelligence and other amazing technologies that can change Israel, can change the Middle East, can change the world. That's what we do best in Israel. I can't deal with that. So they ask for a pardon (to stop the trial). I'm asking for a pardon, okay? And we'll see if it works out. But you wanted to know what this trial is about? That's what this trial is about. Bugs Bunny – and cigars.".
