After shaking up the coffee market by selling coffee and sandwiches for 5 shekels, Cofix entrepreneur Avi Katz will soon establish a supermarket chain that will offer food products at exactly the same price.
According to Katz, the first branch will open in April 2015, with the plan being to initially establish 20 branches under the name "Super Cofix". All five of the first branches will open in Tel Aviv.
Katz says that the chain will carry the top 600 food and consumer products, each of which will be sold at a flat price of 5 shekels.
He said, "We feel that the ground is ripe for a revolution that will turn steam into purchasing power.".
The idea is to establish small branches, 150-400 square meters in size, that will operate as neighborhood supermarkets in city centers and large neighborhoods. The locations of the branches have not yet been determined.
In any case, this is not a supermarket that will offer the entire range of products, and it is already clear that the range will change according to trade agreements with manufacturers and suppliers who, according to Katz, will join the move and offer products at attractive and fair prices without unnecessary brokerage gaps.
However, the new network promises to include most of the categories that the household needs.
