United States President Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Saturday night, en route from Washington to Florida, that he would consider approving the sale of F-35 aircraft to Saudi Arabia.
""They want to buy a lot of planes," the American president said.
According to Trump, the move may be approved during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Washington next week.
According to 'Kan News', Israel expressed opposition this evening to the possibility of the US selling F-35 aircraft to Saudi Arabia. Retiring Minister Ron Dermer expressed the opposition to associates of US President Donald Trump. Saudi Arabia is asking the US for 48 such stealth aircraft.
Dermer visited Washington last week, met with senior administration officials to say goodbye before submitting his resignation letter, and expressed his opposition to the deal.
Israel claims that at this stage the deal is still irrelevant, and is waiting for a meeting between Trump and Saudi Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman next week.
Another concern that is emerging in Jerusalem is that the sale of the aircraft will lead to information leaks to Russia and China, Saudi Arabia's allies, and the loss of Israel's comparative advantage in the skies of the Middle East.
President Trump added in the conversation that he is expected to speak with the Saudi Crown Prince regarding Saudi Arabia's possible accession to the Abraham Accords, and noted that he very much hopes they will do so soon.
During October, Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, along with other countries.
In an interview with Fox Business Network, Trump said that he believes such a move is very close: "I think soon. I don't want to use the word soon. I hope to see Saudi Arabia come in, and I hope to see others come in. I think Saudi Arabia will come in, everyone will come in.".
When asked whether the Saudis had expressed a willingness to join, Trump replied: "Yes. Even yesterday I had good conversations. They couldn't do it during the war. They couldn't do it while the fighting was going on and Iran was a force.".
Last week, Trump announced that Kazakhstan was joining the Abraham Accords.
According to him, the decision was made at the end of a three-way conversation he held with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
