Viewers of the "Israel Morning" program on Channel 14 were treated to an entertaining and unusual television moment today (Wednesday), when presenter Tal Meir was surprised live with a "deepfake" video of herself - as a little girl.
Mia Yahalom Amitai, an artificial intelligence expert, presented in her corner the new capabilities to create a 'talking avatar' - a virtual character that speaks in the voice of a real person.
To demonstrate the technology, Real Diamond showed a short video featuring a young, blonde girl.
To the astonishment of presenter Tal Meir, the girl in the video "said" in her precise voice: "I am proud of myself for growing up to be exactly who I dreamed of. Brave, sensitive, real.".

Meir, surprised, immediately responded: "Is that me?".
After the guest confirmed, Meir burst out laughing and asked the production team to watch the segment again. "Is that artificial intelligence? Wait, wait...""
After the re-watch, Meir explained how the situation came about: "The production contacted me, told me to bring a picture... My parents have the pictures, I didn't bring a picture.".
In the absence of a real photo, the corner team decided to "bypass" her and create a virtual childhood for her. "I didn't stream... and it turns out you bypassed me.".
The panelists were impressed by the resemblance, but Meir concluded the segment with a clarification: "Let's just say, I didn't wear a headscarf when I was six.".
