
A 7-year-old boy from Jerusalem who contracted measles died yesterday, hours after arriving at the emergency room - due to complications from the disease.
According to a Ministry of Health announcement today (Sunday), the child was vaccinated with one dose of measles vaccine.
This is the ninth fatality since the measles outbreak began, with all cases so far being healthy infants with no underlying illnesses who were not vaccinated against the disease.
As of today, there are 16 people hospitalized after contracting measles - 8 of whom are in intensive care.
Areas currently defined as having an outbreak are: Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Harish, Modi'in Illit, Nof HaGalil, Kiryat Gat, Ashdod, Safed, Netivot, the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council and the settlement of Tekoa.
