Several months ago, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards attempted to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz-Niger, but the plot was foiled by Mexican security services.

Senior American officials claim that the assassination attempt indicates that Iran operates a large-scale terrorist infrastructure in Latin America with the aim of attacking American and Israeli targets.

The assassination attempt was carried out by the same unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force that has attempted to carry out attacks against Jewish targets in Australia and Europe in recent months.

The Foreign Ministry stated: "We thank the security and law enforcement services in Mexico for thwarting a terrorist infrastructure that operated with Iran's direction to harm the Israeli ambassador to Mexico. The Israeli security and intelligence community will continue to work tirelessly and in full cooperation with security and intelligence agencies around the world to thwart terrorist threats from Iran and its proxies, against Israeli and Jewish targets around the world.".
