The National Planning and Building Council, headed by Rabbi Nathan Elnatan, approved today (Tuesday) the district outline plan for the expansion of the city of Kiryat Gat.
The plan will pave the way for the approval of 40,000 new housing units in the 'Plugot' complex, west of Kiryat Gat.
The decision was made after discussing the recommendation of the Council's subcommittee (HolNTA) and the objections submitted to the plan.
This is a significant strategic plan to strengthen the south, expanding the urban development area of Kiryat Gat by approximately 18,000 dunams - west of the currently approved area, west of Road No. 40 and east of the Carmei Gat neighborhood.
The plan includes the addition of tens of thousands of housing units for a variety of populations, alongside employment areas, infrastructure, public institutions and open spaces for leisure and recreation. The emphasis in the planning is on accessibility to public transportation and train stations, from an overall vision of a smart, sustainable and connected city.
The National Council noted that the decision is consistent with the national planning policy, which encourages development within existing urban textures and the strengthening of significant urban centers in the periphery, led by Kiryat Gat - a leading city in the Ashkelon Governorate and the entire south.
Chairman of the National Planning Headquarters and Chairman of the National Planning and Building Council, Rabbi Nathan Elnatan: "Approval of the plan is a significant step that will pave the way for approval of the 'Plugot' complex, located west of Kiryat Gat, in which 40,000 housing units for the Haredi public are planned. We see the south as a national growth engine, and today's decision expresses our commitment to continue developing the region.".
