Dangerous congestion at Rachel's Tomb complex: Starting this evening (Saturday night), police and Border Police soldiers are working to provide security and maintain order during the celebration of Rachel our Mother at the tomb complex near Bethlehem.
According to the police, police forces and ushers are working to regulate traffic and the entry of the public to the site and prevent crowded situations for the sake of public safety. "Unfortunately, at a certain point, participants who arrived at the site began to disrupt order by attempting to forcefully enter the tomb complex, which was crowded and at the maximum occupancy allowed at the time.".
According to the police, during the clashes at the scene, one of the young men was arrested by the police after they claimed he tried to attack them.
Following this, forces are working on site to restore order and to partially and temporarily close the public entrance to the complex.
""We call on the public attending the celebration to obey the instructions of the police officers working to maintain security and order, to be patient, to respect the event, and to refrain from acts of violence and disorder. Human life and the safety of the participants are paramount.".
The Ministry of Transportation announced tonight that, "according to police guidelines, there are currently no departures from Tadi to Rachel's Tomb due to unusual congestion at the tomb. Likewise, on the return journey, due to the congestion, there is no police permission for buses to reach the tomb complex and you must walk to the buses.".
