The Ashkelon Municipality announced today (Wednesday) the closure of the city's beaches following a shark spotted in the sea by rescue services.

Residents and visitors to the beaches were asked to obey the instructions of lifeguards, get out of the water and follow the instructions.

About two weeks ago, a shark was spotted off Beach 11 in Ashkelon, causing a similar panic - and a warning sign was placed there to prevent bathers from entering the sea.

After the shark was located and identified, it turned out to be a whale shark, a very rare species that is not dangerous to humans.
