Elizabeth Tsurkov, the Israeli-Russian researcher who was held for more than two and a half years by a Shiite militia in Iraq and was released last month, today (Tuesday) - two years after the October 7 massacre - referred to the 'Iron Swords' war and the situation in the Gaza Strip, and expressed sorrow for the "horror" experienced by the Gazans.

On her X-network account, Tsurkov wrote in Arabic: "On this day two years ago, I was imprisoned in my second prison in the Popular Mobilization Forces camp. The guards turned up the volume on the television so I could hear the news about the October 7th operation.

"I heard reports on channels supporting the Iranian axis and thought the operation was only aimed at military sites, because the broadcasters talked about 'prisoners' (not 'hostages') and often spoke of 'soldiers.'".

According to her, her captors "were very happy" in light of the events, but she herself understood, "even based on the distorted information I received," that "disaster would befall Gaza and its residents, even though I did not imagine the scope of the violations and their horrific nature.".

Tsurkov added that in a recent interview with the wife of former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, it was said that he left the house on October 7th and said, "Gaza will be destroyed.".

At the end of her remarks, Tsurkov wrote: "May God grant relief to the residents of Gaza and the hungry, wounded, and exhausted hostages. They are all paying a heavy price for the decisions of leaders who only care about staying in power, and are indifferent to their fate.".
