United Torah Judaism Chairman, MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, sent an insensitive letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this evening (Sunday) that angered many.

In his letter, Goldknopf mentioned in one breath the hostages who have been held captive by Hamas for over 700 days, in conditions of hunger and suffering, and the ultra-Orthodox 'deserters'.

Goldknopf congratulated the Prime Minister for advancing the deal to release the kidnapped, and expressed hope to see them return home during the Sukkot holiday.

Alongside this, MK Magui criticized the expected release of hundreds of murderers "with blood on their hands" - something that severely harms the bereaved families and the victims of terrorism, and added a strong demand to Netanyahu: "From the media reports it appears that the deal includes the unbearable price of releasing 250 terrorists with blood on their hands who are serving their sentences in Israeli prisons for murder, while leaving hundreds of bereaved families and thousands of injured. These despicable murderers are being released with no choice, but you have the responsibility to ensure that they never pose a threat to the State of Israel at any stage or in any way.".

Immediately afterwards, he added: "I would like to take this opportunity to remind you about those silkworms of Torah learning who were hunted down by law enforcement for the crime of studying Torah and who are also sitting 'in isolation' in an Israeli prison during the holidays that are sacred to us.".

He asked Netanyahu: "I would ask you to act immediately and release them from prison before the holiday is consecrated so that they too can celebrate the holiday of Sukkot with their families.".

The former minister also attacked the High Court of Justice and the Attorney General - who are guilty of persecuting Torah students - when he wrote: "Mr. Prime Minister, be strong and courageous in the face of the evil elements who oblige the Jewish state to imprison citizens whose only sin is studying their Torah.".
