Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman, MK Avigdor Lieberman, today (Sunday) set a 'clear red line' ahead of the next elections: a broad Zionist government without Haredi and Arab parties.
""As far as I'm concerned, there is no place for non-Zionist elements in the next government, neither for Arab parties nor for ultra-Orthodox parties - anti-Zionist elements," Lieberman said in an interview on the Be'er Sheva network.
Lieberman explained his position: "This is to reflect the basic values of the Zionist movement. We cannot give a hand to evasion. When you see all the demonstrations with violence against IDF soldiers, attacking IDF vehicles, beating soldiers, allowing deserters to escape - what is this?".
He added: "In first grade on September 1, the Jewish national stream was only 36%. There is a challenge here for the entire Zionist movement and the State of Israel, we must preserve it as a Jewish, Zionist and democratic state.".
When asked what would happen if he needed the ultra-Orthodox or the Arabs to form a government, Lieberman replied confidently: "If we do it right, we will reach enough mandates to establish a broad and stable Zionist coalition. Everything depends on us - if we do it right, we will reach the desired result.".
Lieberman attacked Finance Minister Smotrich for defining Hamas as an "asset" before October 7th and his comments about a "bonanza" and a "real estate business opportunity in Gaza": "I do not recognize any real intention there, neither in releasing the hostages nor in defeating Hamas, but on the contrary - to exploit and buy time until the elections. Defeating Hamas requires the release of the hostages before that. It is impossible to defeat Hamas without first releasing the hostages. The IDF is truly operating there with its hands tied, and for the IDF to operate at full strength - the release of the hostages is necessary.".
Lieberman also referred to the meeting of the opposition leaders - Yair Lapid, Yair Golan and Gadi Eisenkot, who decided on a permanent forum that will convene again after Yom Kippur: "Naftali Bennett is technically absent, and I believe that he will also participate in the next meeting,",
saying.
Benny Gantz was invited but did not show up. Lieberman expressed doubt about his future participation: "Someone who has already been in Netanyahu's government twice, resigned from it, and returned... On June 24, when he resigned for the second time, he explained that this is a government that puts politics above security. So that's why I don't understand why Netanyahu is suddenly qualified to be a coalition partner right now.".
