The security establishment expressed great concern following an unusual incident that occurred last week - not far from the ultra-Orthodox city of Modiin Illit.
The IDF identified a failed rocket launch attempt from the village of Niama in western Binyamin - and scans of the site located two improvised experimental rockets, without standard explosives.
The area from which they attempted to launch the rockets is about 4 km from the first line of houses in the Haredi city.
.According to a report on Channel 7, the Palestinian Authority's security forces managed to capture the terrorists who tried to launch it, but the detainees have not yet been handed over to the IDF.
Security sources note that this is a precedent-setting incident in which two rockets were seized in the air during searches.
IDF Spokesperson's Response: Last week, an improvised rocket was located in the Kfar Ni'ema area. Examination of the item indicates that the rocket lacks a warhead and standard explosives. The item is being investigated by the Judea and Samaria Border Guard saboteurs, along with conducting an operational and intelligence effort to thwart the infrastructure.
In recent years, a number of similar cases have been discovered. About a year ago, it was reported that Palestinian Authority security forces had located a rocket launcher in the Tulkarm area, from which Islamic Jihad had attempted to launch rockets, but the launch failed.
