The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court recently ruled that the state will compensate a teenager who was held in an illegal electronic handcuff for over a year in the amount of 180,000 shekels as part of a settlement agreement.

The boy was arrested in 2014 after being suspected of damaging an Arab-owned store and was held for about two and a half years under house arrest with an electronic handcuff.

Honenu, who represents the boy, revealed during his trial that the order authorizing the boy's handcuffing was not renewed as required by law and that in fact the boy was unlawfully handcuffed for over a year.

Following this, Attorney Menashe Yado of Mhonenu filed a lawsuit against the state for 200,000 shekels.

Adv. Yado: "Attorney David Halevi, on behalf of the Honenu organization, exposed the terrible injustice done to the boy and at the time led to his immediate release. After his release, we filed the lawsuit in order to compensate the boy for the injustice done to him.".

""We congratulate the Honorable Judge Netanel Sharon, who brought the case to a swift and fair conclusion, and the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, who recognized the responsibility of the various state authorities for the injustice committed and the full justification for compensating him in a decent manner and in an appropriate amount.".
