The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued new guidelines regarding products containing lithium batteries - such as those found in portable chargers, after numerous incidents in which the devices caught fire in midair.
For example, it was recently prohibited to fly with hair straighteners that operate on portable batteries.
According to a report on the 'Mako' website, the TSA is now issuing new guidelines regarding another basic product that many pack for a flight abroad - an electric toothbrush.
The new instructions address the way in which the brush - if it runs on a lithium battery - must be packaged safely, so as not to cause safety damage during the flight.
According to the instructions, it should always be packed in a trolley or backpack with which you board the plane, so that you can identify if it accidentally catches fire in the air and ensure that it is packed properly. Make sure it is turned off and cannot be accidentally ignited, which could accelerate a flare-up at high altitude.
Recently, the TSA has refined quite a few safety procedures for personal equipment that passengers bring onto flights.
Alongside this, there were also quite a few simplifications - the most significant of which is that you no longer have to take off your shoes at US airports, a safety procedure that has been in place since the attacks on the Twin Towers.
