A Palestinian source told the Saudi channel Al-Arabiya this morning (Sunday) that Abu Obeida, spokesman for Hamas' military wing, was killed in an Israeli strike yesterday in the Rimal neighborhood in western Gaza.
""Abu Ubayda's family members and the leaders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades confirmed his death after examining the body," Al-Arabiya reported.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Hamas so far.
The speaker, whose real name was Hudayfa Samir Abdullah al-Kahlot, used to appear on television or in recorded statements while wrapped in the red keffiyeh that is associated with him.
At the beginning of the war, the IDF published Abu Ubayda's name and face.
""He hides behind the nickname Abu Ubayda and behind his red keffiyeh, just like Hamas hides behind civilian installations to launch rockets at Israel. He, like the other Hamas leaders, likes to hide: in tunnels, behind women and children, and also behind masks and shadows.".
