A ruling issued by the Small Claims Court Registrar completely dismissed a family's lawsuit against Air Canada.

But not only that: instead of compensation, the family found itself obligated to pay heavy legal costs, after the court determined that its conduct was "brazen" and an "abuse of the legal system.".

According to a report on the 'Ace' website, the family flew to the US, when their return flight, scheduled for October 9, 2023, was canceled following the outbreak of the 'Iron Swords' War.

The family, who remained in the US for three months, filed two separate lawsuits against the company, claiming that they were "stuck" and incurred many expenses. The plaintiffs claimed in the lawsuit that the war was a "false excuse" and that the company abandoned them.

However, Air Canada presented a completely different picture to the court. According to the evidence presented, the airline did not abandon the passengers, but offered them an alternative flight at a later date. The plaintiff, the company revealed, chose to remain in the US and informed the airline that he would return "at the end of the war.".

The Registrar was particularly harsh in her decision: she noted that "the plaintiff's credibility was fundamentally damaged" and ruled that the claims "should not have been filed." She also sharply criticized the wording of the claim, which ignored the context of the war and called the events of October 7 "an excuse.".

The court dismissed both claims - and ordered the plaintiffs to pay legal costs of NIS 3,000.
