Following approval by the Ministerial Committee for Defense Acquisition, the Ministry of Defense will soon sign with the American government the purchase of the Air Force's fifth and sixth tanker aircraft, manufactured by Boeing.
This is a follow-up deal to the purchase of two advanced tanker aircraft, in addition to four previously purchased KC-46s. This will expand the IDF's fleet of new tankers to six.
The new aircraft will be equipped with Israeli systems and adapted to the operational requirements of the Air Force.
The scope of the deal is estimated at half a billion dollars and is financed by American aid money.
According to the Ministry of Defense, "this is a significant milestone in the course of a large-scale buildup for the third and fourth circles, which the Ministry of Defense is managing for the IDF.".
""The fifth and sixth refuelers will strengthen the Air Force - the long-range strategic arm of the IDF - in order to reach very distant areas with greater power and scope," said the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. Amir Baram. "We will continue to work together to strengthen the IDF in the current campaign and towards future challenges.".
""Boeing is proud of its long-standing partnership with Israel, which dates back to the founding of the state," added Boeing Israel President, Maj. Gen. Ido Nehushtan. "Expanding the deal with two more tanker aircraft will strengthen Israel's air force with the most advanced tanker aircraft in the world.".
