The National Insurance Institute today (Monday) completed the transfer of the education grant to eligible families, with the aim of assisting parents in purchasing equipment, clothing, and textbooks for their children in preparation for the new school year.

The grant is given to families with 4 or more children, who also receive one of the following benefits: alimony, income support, survivors, disability or senior citizen, as well as to independent parents: separated, widowed, divorced or single.

The grant amount is 1,176 shekels for each child from the age of 6 to 18, and it is paid directly to the bank account to which the child allowance is received, for children born between 01.01.2008-31.12.2019.

At the same time, there may be eligibility for the grant even if the child was not born on these dates, and is studying in first or twelfth grade. In such a situation, an application must be submitted on the National Insurance website to check eligibility.

Last year, the National Insurance Institute transferred the education grant to 114,880 single-parent families and 19,800 families with 4 or more children who also receive one of the following benefits: alimony, income support, survivors, disability or senior citizen. In total, 263,700 children received the grant last year, and the total amount was approximately 300 million shekels.

This year, grants were paid to 117,782 single-parent families - 2,909 more single-parent families than last year, and to 22,474 families with 4 or more children who also receive one of the following benefits: alimony, income support, survivors, disability or senior citizen - 2,674 more families than last year.

In total, about 278,500 children received the grant, for a total payment of about 328 million NIS. About 28 million NIS more than last year.

Acting Director General of the National Insurance Institute, Zvika Cohen: "The grant is intended to address the immediate needs of many families before the start of the school year, and to allow children to start the year equipped with everything they need. This is about strengthening and supporting families who are in a challenging period, so that the children can start the year with a sense of security.".
