According to documents seized during an IDF operation in the Gaza Strip, Atsilah appears with his full name and military personnel number on a list of "fighters" belonging to a battalion of the Khan Yunis Brigade.
Next to his name, it is noted that he belongs to a unit called the "Media Company" - an internal Hamas military unit responsible for documenting operations.
IDF spokesman for foreign media, Nadav Shoshani, published: "Asliq was a Hamas operative who posed as a journalist. On October 7, he infiltrated Israeli territory alongside armed terrorists, and filmed murders, arson, and looting. His photographs were not used for news coverage, but were part of the attack itself - and their purpose was to glorify terrorism.".
