The Ministry of Education and the Organization for Ceremonies and State Events announced today (Monday) that Hasidic singer Avraham Fried will be part of the group of artists who will perform at the Israel Prize award ceremony on Independence Day.
Fried will perform without musical accompaniment due to the days of the Omer Counting.
Alongside Farid, Zehava Ben, Sasson Shaulov, Amir Benayoun and Avi Toledano and his daughter Lihi will sing at the event.
Channel 14 news anchor Maggie Tabibi was chosen to host the ceremony.
Maggie Tabibi said: "Thank you, God. Proud and excited to present this year's Israel Prize 2015 under the banner of female power - when this year, for the first time in 77 years, half of the prize winners are women. This is a good reminder of how great the ability to lead and become pioneers is."
Education Minister Yoav Kish said: "The Israel Prize is the culmination of our national independence celebration – a salute to the Israeli spirit of excellence and contribution to society. That is why it was important to us this year that the poetry that would accompany the ceremony reflect the living story of the people of Israel – a connection between deep roots, cultural strength and great hope for the future."
This year, as mentioned, for the first time in the history of the Israel Prize, half of the winners of the Israel Prize - the most important and prestigious award given in the State of Israel - are women.
