The General Security Service is investigating a new case related to the activities of a senior employee in the Prime Minister's Office.
According to a report this morning (Sunday) by Yehoshua (Josh) Breiner and Bar Peleg in the Haaretz newspaper, the investigation also includes another person - a protest activist against the prime minister, who does not work in the ministry.
A gag order was imposed on the affair, but it is known that the Shin Bet took unusual measures against those involved.
Michael Shemesh reported on Kan News that Netanyahu's entourage was shocked today by the identity of the senior official in the Prime Minister's Office involved in the affair published in Haaretz. According to sources in the office, the senior official is considered close to the Netanyahus and was even in direct contact with Sara Netanyahu.
According to one source in the ministry, the senior official involved is "the last person you could think of doing something like this.".
Commentator Amit Segal said on his channel that in the past Shin Bet agents used to say that they "worked in the Prime Minister's Office." According to him, this is a "big story." He raised the possibility that there is a connection between the investigation and previous reports that the Prime Minister's convoy was diverted from its regular route due to fears of obstruction by protest activists.
Segal added and wrote: "Do you understand what's going on here? Suspicion of collaboration between a senior official in the Prime Minister's Office and protest activists, and it's so dramatic that the Shin Bet is detaining a senior official in the Prime Minister's Office and a protest activist.".
""Ahdad: This Shin Bet investigation, which allegedly deals with criminal ties between protest activists and senior officials in the Prime Minister's Office, is not directed against Netanyahu's associates, but on the contrary, is intended to examine possible damage to the structure surrounding him.".
MK Tali Gottlieb of the Likud party revealed details about the affair. She claimed that a senior employee in the Prime Minister's Office knowingly passed information about Netanyahu's location to protesters and that he was detained for a long time.
She wrote: "A coup on steroids! Right-wingers, wake up! When a senior employee in the Prime Minister's Office knowingly passes information about the Prime Minister's location to protesters and civil disobedience, this is the embodiment of a dangerous coup. By the way, if you wanted a reason why I had to reveal in the name of my job that the partner of Bresler, the leader of the rebellion and encourager of the refusal, is a Shin Bet agent, I think everything is clear now. And it's even clearer why I'm being persecuted so much.".
She added and wondered: "A senior employee from the Prime Minister's Office was detained for a long time and admitted that he passed information about the Prime Minister's location to protestors at Shin Bet facilities. Why a gag order? Who are you protecting?""
She added: "These days, dangerous and inciting activity is taking place aimed at harming the Knesset. It's all online. It was planned for March 24. I haven't heard of even a single administrative arrest of dangerous left-wing activists, headed by Yair Golan. May God protect them.".
